About sJAM.
sJAM (South Jersey Additive Manufacturing) was founded in 2023, but really started in 2015 out of necessity. I was an agent of my first 3D Printing startup (NVBots) and part of the company's growth required more materials able to be printed. I took a printer with two dialed in materials and tuned it to over 50 ranging from PETG to PC and including Carbon Fiber Materials.
I've been lucky enough to partner with some of the finest research institutions, universities, private and public companies, and collaborative organizations. Working on some of the most significant projects in material extrusion, especially in the LFAM world and High-Temperature material extrusion.
What I realized is I am in a silo in New Jersey, and it doesn't have to be this way. My hours are limited (extremely limited) but if I can grow the AM community in South Jersey my primary mission will be accomplished.
Additive Manufacturing can help such a wide variety of people and bring customization to the masses and unlock creativity. My goal is to help people implement AM into decision processes and utilize the tool appropriately to make their lives better.
Why sJAM exists
"I want to produce 5000 of this plastic widget, and since 3D printing is the future I believe 20 printers will be the way to make these".
I've heard this too many times, and what happens next:
The 3D printing company gives a quote for 20 machines, excited
The individual never buys the machines, and 5 meetings later moves on
Why does this happen? Because the truth will be found. The truth in this situation is that in this instance Injection Molding will be cheaper, faster, and produce more consistent parts. This could have been mentioned in the first conversation, but it hardly is. Additive Manufacturing represents progress in rapid production, validation cost reduction, consolidation of parts, advancing geometric freedoms, and more - especially high-mix low to mid-volume. Due to this it makes sense as a way to challenge the status quo. But in the same respect, it also should be challenged with the same scrutiny, and this is often the part that is missed.
sJAM exists as a company that knows the strengths of AM and does not cross the line for personal gain. Working with sJAM means you are challenging the idea of 20 printers and turning 5 hours of discovery into a 10 minute phone call.
